Dr. Seuss
By LR
Today I will talk to you about Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss’s real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel. He was born March 2nd, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He died September 24th, 1991, La Jolla California when he was 87 years old. He died of cancer. His ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean. In 1967 Dr. Seuss’s first wife Helen Palmer died. He was devastated. A year later, in 1968 he married Audrey Stone Diamond. Audrey Stone Diamond is still living today. When he was a child, he was in Boy Scouts. In Boy Scouts he and nine other boys won prizes for things they did. They were all supposed to get a medal but there were only nine medals instead of ten. It turned out he was the one who didn't get a metal. After that he always had stage fright.
He wrote over sixty books for kids including The Five Hundred Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, Horton Hears a Who, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat in The Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Lorax. He wrote additional books under the name Theo LeSige. He also wrote one book under the name Rosetta Stone. Theodore chose Dr. Seuss because his father wanted him to study the art of medicine, so Doctor, and his middle name was Seuss.
He won two Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards, one Peabody award, one Laura Ingles Wilder medal, one Inkpot award, one Pulitzer Prize, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame. he also was in the Forbes list of the world's highest paid dead celebrities every year since 2001 and he got a Google doodle.
And that is all I know about Dr. Seuss.
Thank you for listening.
Bye.
