Jane the Chimpanzee Queen

A British ethologist with a chimpanzee Jane Goodall

Jane was born on April 3, 1934, London England and passed away on October 1,2025 age 91. She was passionate about wildlife from an early age. Her dream was to travel to Africa, learn more about animals, and write books about them. Jane worked as a server to save enough money for a sea passage to Kenya.

Jane Goodall remained in Gombe until 1975 often directing the field work of other doctoral Candidates. In 1977, she cofounded the Jane Goodall Institute for California. She also created various other initiatives like the Janes Roots and Shoots a youth service program in 1991. During her life she has authored more than 27 books. Her last book was the book for Hope: A survival guide for trying times.

In 2002 she became a UN Messenger of peace. She was awarded the Templeton prize in 2021 and the presidential Medal of freedom. Continued to write and lecture about environmental and conservation issues into the early 21st century.

Jane Goodall worked tirelessly throughout her life to raise awareness about threats to wildlife.

Joan Procter

Hello, today I am here to tell you about Joan Procter. She grew up loving reptiles and amphibians. She has had so many fun things happen to her including, getting a baby crocodile, discovering a new species, and getting some incredible jobs.

Her childhood was full of excitement. She was born on August 5, 1897. She grew up in a time where women were seen as dainty, but that didn’t stop Joan from loving reptiles. For her sixteenth birthday she received a baby crocodile. She would walk him around with a leash, she once brought him to math class and her teacher was horrified.

Joan got a job at The Natural History Museum in Britain. There, she studied reptiles and fish. London zoo had asked her to design a new reptile house for their reptiles. She designed the new reptile house and became the London zoo curator.

Joan became an expert in herpetology. She published so many papers on science. She had had a reptile friend. It was a Komodo Dragon named Sumbawa. They went everywhere together.

Joan cared for every creature and was there for every creature, during surgeries and more. Joan had chronic ill health issues and died in 1931 at age 34.
