Abraham Lincoln

By: Jack

I'm going to talk about Abraham Lincoln, his election, the war, how he set slaves

free, and his assassination. Abraham Lincoln was a good person because he set slaves free. He would probably have to be smart, kind, and popular

In the election for senator against Steven Douglas, Abraham Lincoln was starting to win support, so Douglas blamed him for criticizing the Mexican-American war. In the end, Douglas won. Later, Lincoln, with the help of David Davis, wins the Republican Nomination for president against three other candidates. On November 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected for president of the United States.

Around a few years later, Abraham Lincoln was looking for help with South Carolina’s rebellion, but the other southern states wouldn't help him. On the other hand, all of the North rose up to fight in the war. Lincoln thinks that their side will win against this rebellion. This is because the war department was only getting good news. Lincoln needs to protect the white house from Maryland and Virgina because they are dangerous states at this time. At the beginning of the war Lincoln was getting help from his generals but near the end of it he took matters into his own hands because they were overrated. The Confederacy had been winning most of the battles, but then at Gettysburg they met the union army and within three days the confederacy was forced to retreat. Later, to win the war, the union surrounded the south and made a blockade. Generals Sherman and Grant invaded and destroyed the south's armies.

Lincoln was also trying to get rid of slavery. Many people thought that slavery would go away on its own, but Lincoln realized that strong men in the government were pushing for it. Lincoln spent a few weeks writing the Emancipation Proclamation, which is a speech about setting slaves free. In 1864 Abraham Lincoln called for an anti-slavery amendment, the amendment was signed in 1865.

Soon after Lincoln will get shot. Jonn Booth was mad at Lincoln because the Union won the war. During the assassination, Lincoln was sitting on a theater balcony when Booth steps in and shoots him from behind, piercing through his brain. Several doctors found him, but the bullet couldn't be removed. He died on April 15, 1865.

Because he died now, we can't learn anymore about him. Overall, Abraham Lincoln was a very kind person.

Harriet Tubman

By: L S

Introductory paragraph:

Hello, my name is Harriet Tubman. I was born on a plantation in Bucktown, Maryland in 1820. My parents named me Araminta, but I took my mother’s name instead: Harriet. I was born a slave along with my 10 brothers and sisters. I would live to be 93 years old.

Body paragraph 1: Cool facts

I had my first job at 6 years old. I took care of a white baby on the plantation. I worked on the plantation with my family until I married John Tubman. I was in my 20’s when we married. He was a free man, but I was still owned by my masters.

Body paragraph 2: Freedom

In 1849 I ran away. My freedom was worth all the risks. I did not tell my husband, John. I left with 2 of my brothers.  In 1850 I decided to free my family from slavery. I brought many of my siblings to the north. In 1857 I rescued my parents from Maryland and moved them to Auburn, New York. I was a conductor on the underground railroad helping my passengers to freedom. No one could turn back once the journey started. I never lost a passenger. I guided 300 people to freedom on the underground railroad. The underground railroad used songs and quilts to send messages to passengers who wanted to be free. The songs gave directions, landmarks, and which stars to follow. Secret quilt codes; the patterns on the quilts often gave important instructions or messages like when to get ready, when to leave, and when to go.

Body Paragraph 3: Civil War

The civil war started in April 1861 when the confederate army attacked Fort Sumter. I worked as a nurse, a cook, a scout, and a spy for the union army. I also led the union army through forests and swamps using my survival skills. I helped free 800 slaves throughout the civil war. After 4 years of war, I returned to my home in Auburn, New York to continue taking care of my parents. I was never paid for my service in the union army.

Conclusion:

After being born into slavery in Maryland, I escaped to freedom at age 29 in Pennsylvania. I walked over 100 miles to freedom. Before my death I helped over 1000 people gain freedom from slavery in the south. In 1869 Sarah Bradford wrote a book about my life about how much I helped women fight for our rights. I wanted to help inspire others to continue my work after I die. I died in 1913 at the age of 93 in Auburn, New York.

ABE LINCOLN

By Keanen G.

Abe Lincoln is an inspiration to Americans everywhere and one of his biggest accomplishments is that he freed the slaves. Back in his time, that made many of the white people mad. There was even a civil war over it. I think he did the right thing. Let's get into what really took place. He was enshrined in the wrestling hall of fame.

First, I am going to talk about his assassination. I know it is the end of his story, but it is going to be the beginning of mine. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on Aprill 15, 1865 at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. Next let's talk about his birth. He was born in Sinking Spring Farm, Kentucky on February 12, 1809. Hours before he was assassinated, he created the secret service. Also, did you know that grave diggers tried to get his corpse? He was 56 when he died.

Now let's talk about his presidency. Did you know that he was a Republican? He was the 16th, president. Before he was president, he was a lawyer and went in front of the Supreme court. He served his whole first term but sadly only 42 days (about 1 and a half months) into his second term he was killed. John Wilkes booths brother saved Abes son from a train incident in New Jersey.

Now let's talk about the Civil war. It started on April 12, 1861, and it ended on May 9, 1865. The north won but at a very high cost. 6 hundred to 7 hundred thousand people died which is really sad. Abe was the President for almost the whole war. Just after he died the war ended. He saw it end in Heaven.

Lastly, did you know he was estimated to be worth over one million dollars in current money. He was 6 feet 4, minus the hat of course. For the height he was only 180 pounds and that is surprising to me because I am 5 foot 3 and I weigh 120 just saying that makes me feel fat, but I bet Abe did not have the flap of steel.

In conclusion, Abe Lincoln was an incredibly fun person to research, and I would really recommend him to you. Is it just me, or does everyone like his top hat? This is what I learned about Abe Lincoln; I hope you liked my presentation.
