Alexi Ananenko

by Gunnar

ON April 26, 1986, at the nuclear power plant near the city of Pripyat Ukraine. A safety test went wrong. First, I am going to tell you what happened then to the Chernobyl disaster itself then some fun facts.

You want to know what happened right, well I'll tell you. On April 26, 1986, at the nuclear power plant at the city of Pripyat Ukraine a late night safety test went wrong, and the world experienced the worst nuclear accident of all time. Dozens were killed immindently and thousands over the ensuing years. The disaster let off more radiation than the nuclear bomb Hiroshima. The divers were to dive throw reactor 4 and drain the cooling pools before the radioactive liquid hit it and blew it up. They were successful. If they hadn't drained the pools the devastation would have been ten times worse.

Then for some more info about Chernobyl disaster. The accident was caused by a combination of factors including operators' errors design flaws and a lack of safety. The disaster led to the evacuation of Pripyat and vast areas of Belarus. There were long term health effects too including thyroid cancer which starts in your thyroid gland and makes bad tumors.

Now to talk about something less crazy some fun facts about Oleksiy ananenko. He was an engineer and he was the one that found the pipes and twisted the valves he and the other two received the hero of Ukraine award after.

I think these men made a real difference in Ukraine for they bravery they showed. They should be remembered as one of the Coolest men in history. Thank God.

Boris Baranok

Nuclear has a lot of meanings, like warfare or chemistry but today I'm here to tell you about nuclear power plants. Disaster strikes in Pripyat, Ukraine at the nuclear power plant Chernobyl.

On April 6th, 1986, a safety test in reactor number 4 triggered the power to drop and then surge by accident. This caused a huge explosion spreading radiation and debris all around the plant. The police and firefighters evacuated people in under a day which was more than Anough time for the radiation to get into your body. Many people never saw their homes again. 4 days after the explosion they discovered a puddle of radioactive water under the reactor and soon scientists realized it would melt through the final safety guards. It would cause a series of explosions and would destroy a lot of Ukraine.

Someone had to do something to save millions of people. The plan was for three people to go down and use the release valves to release the puddle and make sure it didn't melt through the safety guard, but the problem was they still needed to find three people. Soon after that fortunately three people stepped up and their names were Alexei Anenenko, Valeri Bespalov, and Boris Baranov. These people knew there were going to be long term problems or probably death. Alexei Anenenko knew where the release valves were, Valeri Bespalov was an engineer, and Boris Baranov held the light and helped in other ways.

They went down on May 6th, 1986, and they wore basic diving equipment with wetsuits and radiation monitors. The more time the three were down there the more radiation poisoning they would get, so they went as fast as they could, but they knew no matter what they did they would still get a lot of radiation poisoning either way. They released all the water and came back later that day with a completed mission. After, the only side effects the divers got were increased chances of cancer and other diseases. They all lived surprisingly, and Boris Baranov was the only one who has died and that was in 2005 to a heart attack. Soon after the dive, all three of the divers received a high ranked reward called the hero of Ukraine.

So, these three stepped up to save millions with pure bravery, and they went in expecting they wouldn't come back but they defied what everyone thought. They didn't get paid to do this; they fully volunteered without even being asked. And through these actions they saved millions.

Mikhail Baryshnikov

by: Brayden

Today I am going to tell you about the great dancer, Mikhail Baryshnikov. The one who defected from Russia. The one who raised the bar for male ballet dancers. The one who was in so many performances that I cannot say the names of or am not allowed to say.

In his childhood he was born in Riga Latavian SSR on 6-29-1974. He has a strict military father. His mother was the one that introduced him to the theater and ballet. Started ballet when he was 10 and won the divisional prize when he was twelve. He went to 1 school, and it was the Vaganova Academy

Now we are going to talk about his personal life. He has 4 children and 2 of them are in famous movies. He lives in Riga with his wife named Lisa Rineheart. He loves the opera. He has a dog named Gigi and lady yesterday. His net worth is 45 million. His favorite dance is Don Quixote. He defected to Canada on 6-29-1974 with the Bolshi.

Now we are going to talk about Mikhail’s dancing career. After he defected, he danced with the ABT (American Ballet Theater). He learned Goerge Balanches style of movement when at (ABT). He has a vertical jump of 6 ft (insane right)! He was ridiculously small 5,5 so he was not able to tower over a ballet dancer EN point so he did not partner very much.

Now about his acting career. He made his debut on the television in 1977 starring in “The Turning Point” later that year he was the nutcracker for NYBC (Newyork Ballet Company). Then moves onto Baryshnikov on Broadway in 1980. 7 years later in 1985 he stars in “Wight Night". Then he was in the movie called “Dancers.” Then the next year in 1988 he was in “*** in the city”. Then in 2009 he was in a movie called “Place”. And finally, were done with the movies.

Now we are going to talk about some books he has made. He has made a called “Miss ‘O: my life in dance. It is about the ballet teacher for Mikhail Baryshnikov's dance teacher. Now we are going to talk about a book that I have its called “because” and am not going to talk about Because I have in the classroom, and he has more just not enough time.

I loved learning about Mikhail Baryshnikov. He is a great dancer, actor, choreographer and more. He is a superb person on and off the screen. He is someone I look up to. I really want to be like him as a ballet dancer.
