BY Liam
Stephen Colbert was born on May 13th, 1964, in Washington DC to Lorna and James Colbert. He grew up in Charleston, South Carolina and was one of eleven kids. Stephen was born with a tumor in his right ear and when he had surgery to remove it, when he was very young, he became deaf in that ear which he still is today.
Stephen went to Northwestern University and got a degree in communication. He started acting with Second City where he met many comedy actors and friends. Stephen Colbert wrote skits, monologs, and jokes for Saturday Night Live for 15 years (1996-2011). He had a show on Comedy Central called The Colbert Report for nine years, from (2005-2014). Stephen starred as the host for the Late Show in September 2015, it has hosted it for 11 years (2015 – May 2026).
He met his wife first at a Charleston festival in 1990, and he said it was love at first sight. After meeting they discovered that had many of the same friends and had grown up together in the town of Charleston. He married his wife, Evie McGee Colbert, in 1993. He currently lives in northern New Jersey with his wife and three children: Madeline, Peter, and John.
Stephen Colbert has won 11 Emmys and has been nominated 99 times for Emmys and other awards in his career. Stephen loves the Lord of the Rings so much that he is fluent in the fictional languages spoken by the elves in that world. Steven impressed the director of the Lord of the Ring movies so much during his interview that he is going to be in the next Lord of the Rings movie.
Stephen Colbert is a gifted writer, actor, television host, and comedian. He has made people laugh for many years and will hopefully do so for many years to come. America will miss him as the host of the Late Show, but he is sure to find a new way to bring his comedy to people in the future.
