St. Patrick

The Slave Boy

By: Quinn

Have you ever heard of St. Patrick, or ever wondered why we celebrate him [St. Patrick's day]. Did you know that he's not actually not from Ireland he is from England if you have more questions read further through, most of your questions will be answered.

and it all starts with a little boy named Patrick. Now Patrick's family was religious and believed in god, but one day he was taken from his family, and captured by pirates. He got thrown on a ship, and off they went to Ireland soon he was sold into slavery separated from family he worked as a pig boy and watched over the sheep he was only feed twice a day and treated poorly. One night he had a dream of god telling him of a ship going back to the British. That morning he packed his stuff and snuck out. He traveled for quite a while, but he knew God was leading him to the right direction. Eventually he found the ship, Patrick trusted god. He talked to the owner of the ship. The owner said ''we only have a few people, so you can join us''. Off they went to England. They sailed quite a while until the captain said ''were out of food hey Patrick if you pray to that god of yours couldn't we get some food''. Patrick prayed. Suddenly they heard snorting in a barrel. They opened the barrel and there was a pig. They had a great meal that night. When they got to England Patrick reunited with his family. That night Patrick had a dream of a messenger. The messenger handed Patrick a letter Patrick opened the letter then and there he heard the voices of Ireland calling. ''help us'', ''teach us your ways", ''were desperate''. Patrick could hear all these whispers coming to him, it was like taking in a whole bunch of knowledge at one. That morning Patrick talked to his parents. He decided to return to Ireland and he built plenty of churches. Later Patrick died in 17,461 and became St. Patrick.

But that's not all St. Patrick did they say that St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the holy trinity there are a couple more legends. Like there once there was a ship a captain, and St. Patrick asked for a ride. The captain said no because St. Patrick had a big stone with the ten commandments. ''The ship would sink'' the captain said. So, St. Patrick grabbed the giant stone chucked it on the water and rode away back to Ireland... that’s it. Here's my last legend even though there are plenty more this is my last. They say there are no snakes in Ireland because St. Patrick grabbed a drum and drummed away. The snakes heard the loud sound and ran away.

Well we meet again and I'm guessing most of your questions were answered, and even if you have herd that story before I bet you learned something new. St. Patrick is important to me because he's one of the first saints that I really learned about also his story really fascinates me he did some really, generous things for example he went back to the people who kept him as a slave to teach the ways of god. I hope you learned something new.

Catherine the Great

By: Icelynn

Did you know that when Catherine the great died they said she must have fallen off the toilet? Now don't worry she did not die because of that she died because of old age. She was a very great person [ as said in her name] with an extremely funny background. I am very excited to tell you about her.

When Catherine the great was born on May 2nd, 1729 she was given the name Sophia Augusta Federica. She was born a German princess even though she became the empress of Russia. When she was born her mother was disappointed because her mother wanted a boy. So, she was not treated very well because her mother thought that only a male heir was suitable to continue the family line and keep ruling their "domain".

When Catherine was old enough to get married her mother Johana decided that if she married a rich man her mother would finally get what she wanted so she was going to make her get married, but Catherine did not want to get married she had pride, strength, and an attitude. So, her mother would have to figure out how to abash of these quality's.

Almost as soon as Johana decided to start her quest to find catherine a rich husband catherines little brother who Johana loved the most died of yellow fever. Her mother was devastated but all this event did was make Johana even more determined to find catherine a husband.

One night after another long day of searching for a husband and catherine refusing. Johana and Catharine were having a quite dinner but then a messenger came in and said night mail! The letter was from the empress of Russia elizabeth asking Johana to come to Russia and to bring catherine as well. Johana already new that the empress could have been catherines aunt if she would have married catherines uncle, but she had decided against it. So, Johana saw this as a very good opportunity to find catherine a husband. So that night before they even finished dinner they started o pack and the next Moring they left for Russia.

As soon as they were in Russia the empress greeted her with great joy and that night they dinner with the empress of Russia and Catherine was seated right next to the empress, but her mother was not even seated at the same table as the empress, so she immediately went and complained to the empress, so the empress leads her into an empty room and sat her at a personal table then she shut the door and left. After dinner Catherine changed her name from Sophia to Catherine and took on all the things Russia like the religion, language, and custom. After about six months the empress recruited her to marry her nephew peter the 3rd, catherine and agreed.

There wedding was on august 21st 1745 but soon after their marriage she figured out that she was not happy marrying peter the 3rd for one he would sleep in the same room as catherine so he could play with his toys. So, once they forced him to sleep in the same room and bed as catherine he would wait until she was asleep and then make his servants move his toys around the bed, so he would not have to move. He was very immature but catherine new that she just had to wait until the current empress of Russia died so she could over through her husband and become the empress of Russia. Little did she know that time would come sooner than she thought.

On a very sad day the empress of Russia died, and peter became the new emperor of Russia. soon after she gave birth to her son Paul. But the Russia people found him mean and arrogant, plus Russia lost a lot of territory because he tried to install new military customs. He also was the duke of the enemies of Russia, so he hated Russia which is the worst possible quality a Russia empower can have.

One night while peter was on his vacation catherine told all forces to turn against peter and over throw him. This only worked because no one liked peter so they all were in on it. When peter the 3rd returned he was greeted by an angry mob so he fled to the castle where he was later murdered by one of catherine lover's brothers. 2 months after this she got declared new empress of Russia by a priest.

After she was declared empress of Russia she wanted a new crown that had so many jewels it took two months to create. During her reign many people were envious of catherine but most people liked her. During her reign she also expanded the Russian empire, passed a law that allowed religious freedom, and established the first state funded school for girls.

One very sad day catherine the great died and that sadly ended her reign. But she was one of the longest ruling empresses of Russia, so I'd say she had a long reign.

I hope you enjoyed learning about catherine the great. She is an absoluty awesome person but the one thing that I was not impressed by was that she hired someone to murder her husband so that was not great. But not everyone is perfect, so I still love her!

Marie Antoinette

By: Bryar

My mother, Marie Theresa, Empress of Austria, had 16 children and she used us all as pawns. She would make us marry her enemies so there would be better trade between the two countries. One of her enemies was France , and that is were I went. I am Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna, soon to be the last Queen of France.

When I was 14, I was forced to go to France and marry King Louis the XVI. But before I got to France I went on an island and people took everything Austrian from me, then made me French by making me wear French clothing and jewelry and wigs. King Louis was afraid of girls, in fact he was shaking when he put the ring on my finger. When I was first the queen it was really hard to get used to not ever being alone. People thought it was okay to come into my bedroom whenever they wanted to because as a queen I was a public figure working for the people. They thought everything I did was their business. My solution to this was to build my own little town near Petit Trianon in Versailles. I enjoyed picking flowers, fishing, and educating my own kids, as well as putting on plays where I could be a normal farm girl or milk maid. Before I had the privacy of my own town, I ballroom danced, gambled, and stayed up late and slept in.

I heard some rumors about some swindlers tricking the Cardinal into buying me a necklace because he was so desperate for me to like him. I already had seen the necklace and decided against buying it, as it was too expensive. He was caught and put on trial for spending the money he didn’t have, but in the end, he didn’t even get in trouble because he came from a popular family, The country still believed I had something to do with the purchase. France hated me so much because I was their Austrian enemy's daughter. They also thought I spent too much money on my own little town, 3 foot high wigs, parties, gambling, and whatnot. And maybe they were right, but my husband also funded the American Revolution against England. That was not cheap I'm guessing! But no matter who had been spending the money in our high courts, our people of France were starving to death. I did not say "let them eat cake" Because of all of these upsets, our people started to protest and were attempting to break into the castle.

Then one night a mob, led by armed women, was finally successful in breaking Into the castle. And I took as secret doorway to my daughter and son's rooms, and then another secret doorway to my husband's, before the mob came Into mine. This is how I got away to start with, but they caught up with me at my husband's room and put us under house arrest in Paris. During this time, they also placed a guillotine in the middle of town, causing some members of the court to die. When my palace was taken over, on September 21, 1792, the monarchy fell and my husband was forced to wear a red cap, a sign of the revolution.

During our house arrest in Paris, with the help of an old friend, we attempted to escape to the Austrian border and meet my brother there, who also had with him, an army. With forty miles left of our 200 mile journey, we were caught and sent to prison at the temple in Paris this time.

While we were in prison we were separated and they even took my 7 year old son away from me. I could hear him singing songs of the revolution, which his jailer made him learn, from his own cell. He was also, sadly, abused, and died later when he was 10. On another occasion, another mob of revolutionists cut off my good friend's head and forced me to kiss her pale lips; in response, I fainted. My husband was not okay with this, and let the mob know. He was eventually put on trial for speaking up for me in this case, along with treason, and was sentenced to the guillotine. I woke up to the church bells signaling his death on January 21, 1793.

A month after my husband's death, I was moved to a different cell, because the jailer wanted to have me in a place that he could charge people money to come see the last queen of France. These people already knew I was to be beheaded, but I did not know this at the time.

I was finally put on trial in October of 1793 and it lasted for 2 days and one night, with 41 witnesses In all. I was tried for being a bad queen, treason, being irresponsible with money, and also for being a bad mother. I was finally found guilty of being a bad mother, but not guilty of any of the other accusations. I was sentenced to death at noon of the same day my trial ended, October 16,1793.

I went back to my jail cell and wrote a letter to my sister-in-law, but before it was sent a barber came in and cut my hair and placed it in a bonnet. They placed my arms behind my back and changed me to plain clothes. I was given a ride in a cart pulled by a donkey, so that the people could see their queen. It took 30,000 guards to keep the mobs from me. As I stepped up to the guillotine, I accidentally stepped on the executioner's foot. I told him "Pardon me sir, it was not on purpose."

I was no help to either of my countries. In fact, when I died my countries were at war. I came to France as Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna, I have received many nicknames such as Atoine, Madame Deficit, Madame Veto, and by many more. But no matter what, I will always be known as the last Queen of France.

Dava Newman

By Ruby

Hello, I'm Dava Newman, I am so glad you all came. If you didn’t know who I am, my name is Dava Newman. You may know me for my spacesuit. I was the main engineer and I tried to base the suit off animal traits and materials such as a shrimp or an armadillo because of their hard shells, so if something happens they would be protected.

The material is based on a spider's web which is strong, but it is the type to the skin but is breathable and flexible so we so the astronaut can move. We tested to see it by doing yoga it was successful it is perfect for space and some more about me I am 54 years old.

I have traveled the world with my husband Guillermo Trotti. It was amazing! We were on a boat on our way back when we ran out of oil, but we got oil in Italy. We were so excited, but we had to use it to make it to the nearest island. We made it there and got more oil in the ship for the boat and made it home.

Now about my family I have a brother father and I have a husband too. They are the loves of my life. They make me so happy. I am so happy to have them in my life.

She inspires me because she is one of the fist spacesuit engineers and because she proves that she can do as much as a man can and maybe even more. If you want to learn more about her you can read her book Aero Space That is all about me thanks thank you for coming have a great day

Brighton Zeuner

Dude? Was That a Girl

 By: Addison

Did you know that Brighton Zeuner is sponsored by Vans, Bones Wheels, Skeleton, Mfg, and many more. That is another reason I think Brighton is awesome. Let me tell you more Brighton is thirteen years old and Brighton was born on July,4th, 2004 in Encinitas CA. Brighton also has a vert ramp in her backyard that all the pros come and use. Brighton's older brother inspired her to start skateboarding. She started to skateboard at age 4, then at age 8 she decided to skateboard competitively. She got recognized when she joined the OG Betty skateboarding team at age ten. Brighton won the 2015 girls vans combi contest. Brighton just missed the podium in Austin, she got 4th place. At age 11 she was the youngest person ever to get invited to xgames. Brighton is the youngest women ever in xgames history to win gold, she won gold on July 5th, 2017. She won gold in the park skateboarding finals. She won xgames gold the day after her birthday. Brighton inspired me to skate more and don't be afraid to go big.
