I’m doing a report on Annie Oakley. Annie Oakley was a sharpshooter. She was the best at aiming and shooting. Annie Oakley was really poor. She was also an orphan girl growing up. She was rough and tough.

First you’re going to hear about Annie Oakley's early life. Annie Oakley was born in Willowdell, Ohio on August 13, 1860. She died in Greenville, Ohio on November 3,1926. Annie began trapping at the age of seven. She began shooting and hunting at the age of eight. Annie Oakley had nine siblings. However, two of her siblings died at birth. She was the fifth out of seven in her family. Annie became an orphan after her father died and she left her mom at a very young age to work.

Next you’re going to hear about how Annie Oakley became famous. She was an actress in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Annie performed as a champion markswoman on the show. She started acting in the Wild West Show in 1885, when she was twentyfive. She was in the Wild West Show for 16 years! Her nickname on the show was Watanya Cicilla. She was able to travel all over the country and the world. She also traveled to London. During the Wild West Show, Annie Oakley met a Native American leader named Sitting Bull. Sitting Bull was so impressed with her manners and abilities that he “adopted” her. She was 25 when she was adopted. She got hit by a train and was badly injured, so she had to quit the Wild West Show.

Lastly you’re going to hear about Annie Oakley’s quotes and death date. She died of pernicious anemia. She didn’t have enough vitamin B12 in her diet so she died. She had poor reflexes as a result of her pernicious anemia. One of the quotes by Annie is: “Aim at a high mark and you’ll hit it. No not the first time, nor the second time. Maybe not the third. But keep on aiming and keep on shooting for only practice will make you perfect.”

I think Annie Oakley is pretty amazing! She did so many amazing things. She’s the best at aiming and shooting. I’m surprised that she was an orphan and that she was adopted by a Native American leader.

Presentation Notes:

"I'm glad I can see you today. I just got done wild west show . It's my lunch break today and I wasn't expecting visitors today. But let me tell you about my life. When I was 15 I went to work and, when I went to work my boss was being mean to me so I ran away from work and my mom. When I was 25 I joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. While I was in the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show I went to London. We performed in front of Queen Victoria. When we brought out the American Flag Queen Victoria stood up. It was amazing."
